Coach vs. School Bus:
Which is right for your wedding?

Not sure which kind of bus to get for your wedding? Here are the top things to consider when making your decision.

1. Cost
It’s important to choose a transportation method that won’t burn a hole through your budget. School buses are often the most cost-effective option since they fit more people and can go longer distances for less. Because of their extra features and comfort, coaches often cost significantly more. At the end of the day, it all comes down to what transportation method best meets your needs, and how much of your wedding budget you want to allocate to it.

2. Comfort
Coach buses, which often come equipped with toilets, televisions, and Wi-Fi, are better suited for traveling long distances. But if you’re not going very far and you want your guests more focused on the party than a screen, a school bus is a great option.

Beyond the comfort of the ride, couples are increasingly thinking about the comfort of their guests throughout the big day. Providing a shuttle for guests is becoming more common because of this. It’s also a nice thank you (especially to out-of-towners) as well as a stress reliever, since you’ll know your guests will arrive safely and on time.

3. Logistics

Your schedule of events will have a big impact on what kind of transportation you choose. Consider these two factors as you make your decision:

  • How many people do you want to transport? If it’s just the bridal party, or you’re having a small wedding, then a coach shouldn’t be an issue. However, if you’re planning a larger wedding and want to transport all your guests, a school bus can be a great option. With a coach, you may need to make multiple trips to accommodate everyone or even rent multiple coaches. A school bus or two can often fit everyone in one trip — and multiple school buses are a lot easier on your wallet.
  • How many drop-offs and pickups will there be? For example, will guests be transported to the ceremony? To the reception? Back to their hotel at the end of the night? Will the bridal party be transported to the photo shoot? Depending on how many rides you’ll need, a school bus or two can be a huge time saver for everyone and a stress reliever for you.

4. Theme
What’s the theme for your wedding? If you’re aiming for upscale and sleek, a coach can really accentuate that feel. If you’re shooting for nostalgic, rustic, whimsical, or just plain fun, a school bus is right up your alley. Guests will love reminiscing over days gone by or feeling enjoyably rebellious drinking beer on the bus. Plus, a good old-fashioned school bus presents many wonderful photo opportunities for you, your spouse-to-be, and your bridal party. This is especially cute if you happened to meet each other in grade school or high school, or even on a bus.

Another cute trend is including your dog or other pet in your wedding pictures. A school bus is a great way to make sure everyone gets to the photo shoot, even your dog.
